Germany introduced the Opportunity Card (Chancenkarte) to modernize its immigration system and attract qualified foreign professionals from non-EU countries to meet its growing skilled labor demands.
The Opportunity Card operates on a transparent points system where applicants must achieve at least 6 points based on criteria including partial qualification recognition (anabin/ZAB), German language skills (A1–B2) or English proficiency (C1), professional experience, and age under 35.
Holders of the Opportunity Card are permitted to stay in Germany for up to one year to search for qualified employment. During this period, you are legally allowed to work part-time up to 20 hours per week or undertake two-week probationary trials with potential employers.
Once you secure a qualifying job offer meeting the annual salary threshold, you can seamlessly convert your Opportunity Card into an EU Blue Card or a standard German Skilled Residence Permit without having to leave the country.
